The recent news of Santander branch closures will put more pressure on communities.

🎧 While out walking the dog listening to BBC Radio Leeds, our Head of Marcoms, Jason Costello, was saddened to hear the announcement by Santander to close 95 branches across the UK.

He said, “It’s rubbish that this move puts 750 jobs at risk and is a stark reminder of the sectors in society accelerating shift away from traditional banking.

While the bank cites change in customer demands as the primary driver, the impact on businesses that rely heavily on cash deposits cannot be ignored 💷.

For many SMEs, particularly those in the retail, hospitality, and service sectors, CASH remains a necessity. These businesses, often operating on tight margins, rely on the ability to quickly and securely deposit their takings.

The closure of local branches creates significant logistical challenges, increased costs, doing more with less and potential security risks to staff are all very real.

As the UK’s largest independent payments broker we identified that the abandonment of the high street from UK Banks wasn’t fair on businesses that take cash, and looked to use our payments nous to change that, our AcceptCash solution ensures businesses owners now have the tools to fight back and take control of their cash management.

Using “Smart Safes” they can now have their takings securely and safely deposited in their bank the same day, a GAME CHANGER for cash-handling companies, which directly addresses the challenges posed by the shrinking physical banking infrastructure.

I will always bang the drum that “Access to cash” has to remain a crucial aspect of our communities, but the ongoing closure of bank branches threatens to exacerbate financial exclusion. While i will always champion choice and know that digital banking offers convenience for many, it is not a viable option for everyone.

Concerns raised by consumer groups like WHICH? are valid. The promised community bankers and banking hubs, while well-intentioned, may not fully compensate for the loss of physical branches. The government and financial institutions must prioritise solutions that ensure continued access to cash for businesses and individuals and we are always here to help with those conversations and more than happy to start locally with our MPs Kate Dearden & Josh Fenton Glynn, who cover Calderdale, where we are based.

We are proud that AcceptCash is a practical solution that empowers businesses to take control of their cash management, protecting them from the impact of the ever-changing banking landscape.”

If you are affected by bank closures, feel free to reach out; we are here to help where we can.
