The contactless limit will more than double, seeing it rise from the current £45 to £100 on Friday 15th October 2021.
Card machines in the UK must be capable of accepting contactless card transactions up to the new limit, with terminal providers making the updates from early October onwards which will see the changes and upgrades happen automatically.
Customers will continue to be able to make contactless payments for higher amounts using their digital wallets via their smartphone or similarly enabled wearable device, as is possible today.
